| Here are 3 ways you can reformat a picture to change its file size. Whenever you are unsure on how to proceed always check your software manual or ask for a second opinion.
|
| |
| |
| Option 1: Changing the size of the picture |
| |
| Steps |
| |
| 1. |
Open your photo editing software |
| 2. |
Click on Edit from the menu followed by Resize or a similar option |
| 3. |
Type in the new size of the picture (to reduce the file size, make the photo smaller and vice versa) |
| 4. |
Press OK |
| 5. |
View the file size through your file manager (eg, My Documents in Windows where the file size is indicated on the bottom or right hand side scrollbar) to find the accurate file size as the size displayed in your photo editing software tells you the how much space the program itself needs to work with the picture not the size of the file |
| |
| |
| Option 2: Changing the resolution of the photo |
| |
| This option is usually only available in more advanced photo editing software, for example Photoshop. |
| |
| Steps |
| |
| 1. |
Open your photo editing software |
| 2. |

| 4. |
Press OK |
| 5. |
View the file size through your file manager (eg, My Documents in Windows where the file size is indicated on the bottom or right hand side scrollbar) to find the accurate file size as the size displayed in your photo editing software tells you the how much space the program itself needs to work with the picture not the size of the file |
| |
| |
| Option 3: Changing the file type of the photo |
| |
| Photos should be in JPG or GIF format. Changing the file to a GIF file can reduce the file size of the photo as it reduces the number of colours in the photo. The drawback of this option is that the picture will be of poorer quality and you see the pixels in the photo when printed out. In addition, this option is often only available in more advanced photo editing software. |
