Living with Flatmates

Spring Cleaning Checklist for Flatmates

Spring is here! The days are getting warmer and longer. It’s a great time to get ready for summer including getting your apartment or house in tip-top shape. We love the summer feel and positive vibe we get in our house after doing a thorough clean after a long cold winter. That’s why we’ve created a spring cleaning checklist especially for flatmates.

We have found that it’s important to involve all flatmates at each spring cleaning stage. Just think – “many hands make light work” when comes to spring cleaning. Involving everyone also makes sure nobody feels left out and that each opinion is heard and respected. To ensure each checklist item is ticked off, planning ahead by choosing a weekend that works for everyone, organising cleaning supplies and dividing tasks is a must. Otherwise, you might just find that it may take more than one weekend to get everything done. See our blog post about spring cleaning the easy way to get organised.

Spring cleaning supplies don’t need to be expensive. You can easily make your own cleaner at home by using vinegar and bi-carb soda. A commercial, eco-friendly alternatives that are easy-to-use and reliable are Orange Power products. We love using the Multi-Purpose Cleaner and Carpet & Upholstery Cleaner. You can find them at your local Woolworths supermarket. If your place is anything like ours, space will be at a premium. Kmart currently has plenty of storage containers, bins, baskets and rackets to help keep your living areas, bathrooms and bedrooms tidy without breaking the bank.

So, drumroll please … here’s the checklist. We have listed the basic tasks for each room type (living area, bedrooms, bathroom, kitchen and laundry) that will give that clean, fresh summer feel. You might even like to print and modify it to suit your own needs. But most of all, please enjoy.
